South Redford School District Board of Education Trustee, Nichole Kangas, resigned from her position on the Board in a letter submitted to the South Redford Board of Education on Monday, July 12, 2021 to be effective August 12, 2021. Ms. Kangas has served the District as a member of the Board of Education since November 2016.
Board policy specifies the Board vacancy must be filled from among registered school electors of the South Redford School District by a majority vote of the remaining Board members within 30 days after the vacancy occurs. The Board vacancy must be filled by Saturday, September 11, 2021.
South Redford residents interested in filling the vacancy must submit their application no later than Tuesday, August 24, 2021 by 4 p.m. Applications can be submitted to the South Redford School District Superintendent’s Office (Attention: Christopher Jones) located at 26141 Schoolcraft Rd, Redford, MI 48239 or by email to [email protected]).
Candidates are asked to submit an application, which can be downloaded from the District website (southredford.org), to the Board representative Christopher Jones and to appear at an open special Board meeting for an interview on August 30th, 2021 at 6:30 p.m. in the Board Room of the Jan Jacobs Building located at 26141 Schoolcraft Rd, Redford, MI 48239. During the interviews, candidates will be given the opportunity to introduce themselves, explain their interest in and qualifications for the position, and answer questions posed by Board members. It is anticipated that the Board will take action to appoint a candidate subsequent to the candidate interviews, at the special Board meeting on August 30, 2021 or August 31, 2021 (depending on the number of candidates). The appointed candidate will serve through the end of Ms. Kangas’ term, December 31, 2022.
If the Board does not fill the vacancy within 30 days after the vacancy occurs, the intermediate school board will fill the vacancy by appointment.
