Dear South Redford Families and Staff:

The administration and staff at South Redford School District are working hard to keep our students and staff safe and healthy.  Please read below for information on the lunch program for all children in the community which begins tomorrow. Also included in this update are websites you can access to keep your child(ren)’s minds active during their break from the classroom.  We look forward to the day when we will meet with your children in school again.

“Grab and Go” School Lunch Program – Begins Tuesday, March 17

We recognize a need for all children in our community to have breakfast and lunch available daily through the National School Lunch Program during the time schools are closed. In order to address this need within our community, each of the South Redford School District elementary, middle and high school buildings will be a food distribution site.  We will also be using our school buses to deliver meals into neighborhoods. Food distribution will begin tomorrow, Tuesday, March 17, 2020, and is available for all children in our community.

Individual bags containing both breakfast and lunch items will be available for your child(ren) each day, Monday-Friday, to pick up at a school or bus stop near your home.  Please see the schedule below for locations and times. The buses will make every effort to be on time at the distribution locations. Please be patient with us as we work out the details of the runs.

Some of the items in the Grab and Go bags require refrigeration and some of the food will need reheating.  All of the food that requires cooking has been precooked. For your child(ren)’s safety, please be sure to refrigerate the precooked items if your child does not immediately eat them.

Grab and Go bags containing breakfast and lunch items will also be available for $5.00 at the school distribution locations if needed for the adults in your family.  Please plan on paying the exact dollar amount when purchasing these food bags as our workers will not have the ability to provide you with change. There is no option for adults to purchase Grab and Go bags at the bus stops or community center.

Grab and Go at Schools and the Community Center will take place at the following locations 9:00-10:30 a.m., Monday-Friday:

Curriculum Department News

While South Redford Public Schools are closed following Governor Whitmer’s announcement, there are many opportunities for students to continue their learning at home. South Redford School District is providing resources for students to exercise their minds and stay sharp while they are out of school. These resources are NOT required for students and participation will not impact their grades.

You will find daily schedules/routines, tips for staying healthy, and educational resources tailored to specific grade levels.  We have included tools to help you explain to your child(ren) why they cannot return to school or may be prohibited from their normal activities.

Below is the link to elementary and secondary learning resources as well as information about available internet options:

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has a list of ways to manage stress and anxiety during the public health crisis.  Please take a look at their website and share the information with your friends, and family:

Medication, Materials and Belongings Pick-up

South Redford schools will be open for parents and students to pick up learning materials, belongings, and medication on Wednesday, March 18, 2020, from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. and Thursday, March 19, 2020, from 3:00-7: 00 p.m.  School visits to pick up supplies and materials are intended to be quick. Please pick up your items and depart the school quickly. We will have time in the near future to catch up with one another.

Spring Break

At this time, Spring Break remains scheduled for April 6-10, with a return to school on Monday, April 13th.  Should the District receive direction from Governor Whitmer of any changes to the District calendar, you will be notified as soon as we hear of the change.

Please regularly check your email and the District website for updates. New information will be coming out periodically as our school district receives updates. If you are not receiving calls or email updates from the District, please send an email with your phone number to and your phone and email contact information will be updated so you will receive District email and phone updates.

We hope you are all staying safe and healthy during your time away from the classroom and we look forward to seeing our students and staff together again soon.
