Dear South Redford Families and Staff:
Due to the increase in Covid-19 cases and quarantines, the South Redford School District will temporarily transition to remote learning starting on Tuesday, January 11th, 2022 through Friday, January 21st,2022.
Monday, January 10th, 2022 will be no school for students and a planning day for staff.
Return to in-person learning for students is scheduled for Monday, January 24th. This remote instruction time will give our custodial staff an opportunity to deep clean and sanitize our buildings while providing a two-week quarantine period for all of our students.
It is imperative that ALL students attend their remote classes synchronously (regular bell-to-bell schedule) with their devices on and engaging with their teachers. This is necessary, not only for our students' education and growth, but for the school year attendance requirements. As required by the Michigan Department of Education, school districts must have a 75 percent daily pupil attendance threshold to be counted as a day of instruction. If the district does not meet daily attendance rates, we may need to add school days to our calendar.
If there are crucial supplies that your student(s) need, a school supply pick-up day is scheduled on Monday, January 10th, 2022 from 9:00am to 2:00pm. As a reminder, anyone entering the building must self-screen, wear a mask, and social distance.
January 10th, 2022 will be an on-site planning day for teachers. Teachers and staff will continue to work on-site through the duration of remote instruction with the exception of the January 17th holiday/ Professional Development Day for staff. All staff should continue exercising Covid-19 mitigation strategies and practice social distancing.
Food distribution will take place at Addams Elementary School and at the Fisher Elementary School main entrance during the following days and times:
- Monday, Jan. 10th from 12pm-1pm and from 3:30pm-6:30pm
- Wednesday, Jan. 12th from 3:30pm-6:30pm
- Friday, Jan. 14th from 3:30pm-6:30pm
- Wednesday, Jan. 19th from 3:30pm-6:30pm
(Food distribution on these days will include meals leading up to the next food distribution day)
The Pierce Middle School clinic will continue to offer Covid-19 vaccinations and boosters during the shift to remote instruction. We strongly encourage all eligible South Redford students and community members to get vaccinated. Appointments can be scheduled by calling the Pierce Middle School Health Clinic at 313-242-0570.
Student and staff safety remains our top priority. I appreciate your patience and understanding during this remote instruction period to support the health and safety of our students, staff, and families. We believe that in-person instruction is most effective for our students and we look forward to in-person classes resuming on Monday, January 24th, 2022.
