Mask Recommendation Update

February 18, 2022

Dear South Redford Staff and Community,

As you may have heard, the Wayne County Health Department has ended its mask mandate for inside buildings and schools. This decision was made after the Michigan Department of  Health and Human Services updated its face mask guidance due to the declining COVID-19  infection rates in the county. The South Redford School District continues to follow the recommendations of our local health department and experts. Thus, while the use of masks is no longer required indoors, to protect the health and safety of our school community we  still encourage our students, teachers, staff, and visitors to wear masks when inside school buildings. I also encourage you and your family to continue following COVID mitigation safety practices, including washing hands frequently, conducting symptom checks, and,  when necessary, social distancing. We will continue to provide masks for those staff and students who need them.

While masks will no longer be required in school buildings, I want to remind you that the federal transportation mask mandate is still in effect. Thus, students and staff are required to wear masks when using district transportation.

Vaccinations are strongly encouraged for all eligible students, families, and staff.  Vaccinations are available at the Pierce Middle School clinic for any eligible South Redford person. Appointments can be scheduled by calling the Pierce Middle School Health Clinic at  313-242-0570.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we strive to create the best possible learning environment for our students and staff. Working together, we have been able to provide an environment throughout the pandemic for scholars to grow academically, socially,  and emotionally. We remain committed to providing you with updates but in the meantime, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact my office at 313-535-4000  extension 1001.
